Attractive expansion of Hoef en Haag with start of construction of De Buitenkans

3 October 2025

Commissioned by Hoef en Haag C.V. (a collaboration between area developers AM and BPD), the official go-ahead has been given for the construction of De Buitenkans. Alderman Ton van Maanen of the municipality of Vijfheerenlanden, together with future residents, performed a symbolic act to mark this moment. The construction of 19 homes in this new neighbourhood, aimed at first-time buyers and those looking to move up the property ladder, will be an attractive addition to the De Erven neighbourhood in Hoef en Haag.

Country living

The neighbourhood is characterised by an intimate, village atmosphere with lots of greenery. The homes in De Buitenkans fit in seamlessly with the rural character of De Erven. Natural materials, varied facades and spacious gardens have been chosen, ensuring that the neighbourhood fits in with the green character of the surrounding area. The courtyards and orchards not only provide a pleasant living environment, but also encourage outdoor living and socialising. The design is by Looijaard Architectuur and the construction is being carried out by Gebroeders Blokland.

Alderman Ton van Maanen: ‘With De Buitenkans in De Erven, we as a municipality are not only building homes, but also a neighbourhood where socialising is central. A place where people live together in green surroundings, with space for connection and outdoor living.’

Anne van Mullem, project developer at AM: ‘De Buitenkans is a wonderful example of how we create neighbourhoods that are sustainable, future-proof and at the same time warm and village-like. With respect for the environment and with an eye for the residents who will soon be living here with pleasure, we are proud of what is being achieved here.’

About De Erven

De Erven is one of three neighbourhoods within the new village of Hoef en Haag and is located closest to the Lek River. The neighbourhood has its own residential atmosphere, is spacious and characterised by a rural and playful character. There are various orchards, small paths and many green spaces with different places for recreation and socialising. The Lek river is within walking distance, as are the various amenities in the village centre. Parking is usually available on private property or in small parking courtyards. This keeps the streets and courtyards car-free and gives children plenty of space to play safely outside.

About Hoef en Haag

Hoef en Haag CV (a collaboration between area developer AM and BPD | Bouwfonds Gebiedsontwikkeling) is developing the new village of Hoef en Haag. Approximately 1,800 homes will be built in the village by 2028. Hoef en Haag is a new village on the River Lek, within walking distance of the characteristic village of Hagestein, within cycling distance of Vianen with all its amenities, and close to the heart of Utrecht. Here, people live in a truly rural village setting, yet close to the employment opportunities of the dynamic Utrecht region. The urban design of Hoef en Haag is inspired by ribbon development, farmyards and the village character of fortified towns along the Lek. The residential areas Het Lint, De Erven and Het Dorpshart together provide an attractive living environment for a wide audience in a new, sustainable village, where happy living and social cohesion are encouraged.
