AM proves its impact with B Corp Certification

AM creates living environments with a focus on people and social responsibility. Living environments that contribute to solutions for social issues. Climate positive. Welfare-oriented. Socially connected. And economically profitable. AM was recently awarded B Corp Certification. A fantastic milestone and wonderful recognition of its social course. Dennis Lith, Brand & Communication Manager, explains why AM is proud of this certification.

B Corp Certification is an international certification for companies that strive for more than just profit. It means that an organisation has a positive impact on people and the environment. The rigorous, independent assessment makes this demonstrable. Qualifying for this certification was a logical step for AM. Dennis: "In our area developments, we place a strong focus on solutions to social issues. From climate adaptation and biodiversity to health and social inclusivity. That is so much more than just stacking bricks. We create communities for people. By committing ourselves to these challenges, we can and want to make an impact on people's lives. Achieving B Corp Certification is a powerful and independent recognition that we are on the right track."

Confirmation of our vision

Two years ago, CEO Ronald Huikeshoven and Dennis came up with the idea of applying for B Corp Certification. Dennis: "This would allow us to independently reinforce our positioning as “impact developers”. With this certification, AM joins a group of companies that not only want to make a profit, but also want to do good for society. Companies such as Tony Chocolonely, Too Good To Go, Rituals, Auping, Albert Heijn and Triodos Bank. We are proud that we have succeeded, because it confirms and reinforces our vision. As a B Corp, it is immediately clear to our partners and clients that we take our social responsibility very seriously and want to use our influence for good."

Intensive assessment

Becoming a B Corp is no easy feat. It involves a lot of work, and that is precisely what makes the certification meaningful. Dennis: "The basis of the certification is a comprehensive assessment. That assessment covers the entire business operation, from management to what you do for the environment. From the well-being of your employees to the impact of the company on the community and the relationship with your customers. In short, the entire company is scrutinised in terms of virtually all aspects of its operations. To become a B Corp, you must score at least 80 out of a maximum of 200 points."

Once the assessment has been completed, it is evaluated and verified by an analyst from B Lab, the organisation behind the certification. Dennis: ‘You enter into discussions with the analyst, who asks in-depth questions on many points from the assessment and also asks you to provide evidence. For example, we scored well in the areas of employees and the environment.’ In addition to the assessment, an important condition was that AM's articles of association had to be amended. Dennis: "In this so-called “mission lock”, you enshrine that your business objectives take into account not only shareholders, but all stakeholders.

We are delighted with this wonderful recognition, but we are also identifying areas where we want to make further progress in the coming period.

Always keep improving

According to Dennis, the B Corp Certification serves as an incentive for AM to continuously improve: ‘To remain a B Corp, companies must recertify every three years. B Lab is constantly refining its requirements. We are driven to keep looking for ways to improve. We are proud of this wonderful recognition, but we are also identifying areas where we want to make further progress in the coming period.’

Stronger into the future

The certification not only gives the right impression of AM to partners and clients, but also to the young talent that the company wants to attract. Dennis: "Young professionals think it's important that the organisations they work for mean something to society and the environment. Thanks to our B Corp Certification, we can profile ourselves even better as a sustainable employer.‘ Looking ahead, Dennis is also looking forward to collaborating with other B Corps: ’It gives us access to a broad national and even international community of B Corp-certified companies. An impressive group of companies that together form a positive movement. We hope to exchange ideas and knowledge and collaborate with these companies in the future."
